How to Identify your Skin Type?

Laura Kasting

Updated: Jun 13, 2024

Identifying your skin type is the first step in creating an effective skincare routine. Knowing whether you have dry, oily, combination, or sensitive skin will help you choose the right products and treatments to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

It's actually the main reason we chose to create mini collections instead of comprehensive lines. Most skincare lines are tailored to a specific concern. Say hydration for example. Instead of creating a full line of hydration products we've chosen to formulate in a way that allows you to keep it simple. No one needs 8 products targeting their dry skin.

In my humble opinion you often need a mix of different types of products and active ingredients that are gentle but effective.

Here are some tips to help you identify your skin type:

1. Dry Skin:

If your skin often feels tight, flaky, or rough, you likely have dry skin. You may also experience redness and irritation, especially in cold weather. Look for products that provide intense hydration and avoid harsh ingredients like alcohol that can further dry out your skin. Explore our hydrating products.

2. Oily Skin:

People with oily skin often have enlarged pores and a shiny complexion, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). You may be prone to acne and blackheads. Choose oil-free and non-comedogenic products to help control excess oil production and prevent breakouts.

3. Combination Skin:

Combination skin is a mix of dry and oily areas. Typically, the T-zone is oily while the cheeks are dry or normal. Finding a balance in your skincare routine is important. Use lighter products on oily areas and richer products on dry areas.

4. Sensitive Skin:

If your skin is easily irritated, itchy, or prone to redness, you likely have sensitive skin. It's important to choose fragrance-free, hypoallergenic products and to perform patch tests before trying new products to avoid adverse reactions.

How to Determine Your Skin Type

To determine your skin type, start by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser and then wait for about an hour without applying any products. After an hour, observe how your skin feels:

  • If it feels tight and looks dull, you may have dry skin.

  • If it looks shiny and feels greasy, you likely have oily skin.

  • If you notice both dry and oily areas, then you have combination skin.

  • If your skin feels irritated and itchy, you may have sensitive skin.

Maintaining Healthy and Radiant Skin

Understanding your skin type is essential for maintaining healthy and radiant skin. Once you know your skin type, you can tailor your skincare routine to address your specific needs and concerns. Remember that our skin can change over time due to various factors like age, climate, and hormones, so it's important to reassess your skin type periodically and adjust your skincare routine accordingly.

Hope this helped!
